all sugars SUCK! well except for…

MoWrOwInfow: all sugars are basically evaporated cane or beet juice which are then cooled to crystalize, some less refined therefore with higher molasses (the nutritional part of sugar cane containing minerals and antioxidants) like brown sugar and muscovado therefore darker, but still high in calories and instantly processed in the same gush of insulin therefore increasing risk of obesity, diabetes, heart disease, various infections, and cancer.

Healthy alternatives include stevia, xylitol, and erythritol, but should be moderated anyway as they do contain calories but a whole lot less (Xylitol 60%, Yacun 33%, Erythritol 6%, Stevia 0%) and can have laxative effects.

BTW I found this incredibly delicious bread (well aside bolo de caco meaning cake of bread native to Madeira containing wheat flour and sweet potato flour): Pao Al Farro which is basically wheat with carrob flour, so damn tender and delicious, with no added sugar xD). Oh and other forms of healthy sugar alts include carrob and banana pure, and ofc: date sugar (not syrup).

Woodless Wood

MoWrOwAmazed: stumbled on a wood floor shop called @floorworldllc at @deerfieldsmall in Abu Dhabi, which btw has kickass HTC Vive VR sims called Job Simulator, and a bunch of sweeet obstacle courses.

Thanks to @eugenia_makore I found out that the wood there is almost all just oak wood with natural edible plant oil paint, some with laquer pain for extra smoothness (non edible ;P) especially designed for Emirates with resin under to prevent expansion due to heat.

What really blew my mind is the laminate flooring which is basically HD photographs of wood on top of waste wood or plastic xO Its cheaper and more quiet and less flammable than wood, but with the same exact look n feel of wood lOl.

A vegan in Istanbul

Explored some of the – relatively – healthy food options in Istanbul at Kadikoy (Asian side) and was recommended to check out vegetarian Komsu Cafe with contribution (yes you may help out in the kitchen!) and donation system (though recommended amount mentioned on their menu) xO

Komsu Cafe has a fab (but quite dull, for me at least) rustic feel to it. Designed for meeting people, and they even donate clothes xD Enjoyed their vegan kofta 🙂

Stumbled upon the first vegan cafe restaurant called Mahatma Cafe on a hill top run by friendly – and revolutionary! – Turkish folk with some Yoga influence. They claim to berely make a profit due the high quality ingredients (such as virgin olive oil) and high taxes It has a real chill, laid back, natural (all outdoors even, but with partial shelter) n chill vibe xD

Had Mahatma Cafe’s vegan Menemen (similar to Middle Eastern Shakshooka), a traditional Turkish dish which includes eggs (in this case tahina), tomato, green peppers, and spices such as ground black pepper, ground red pepper, salt and oregano. Also had raw lentil kofta there x)

JibJab Year in Review 2012: The End is Here

I was at JBR beach, and there were some shellingz 8|

OK OK it was fireworks, but they were real close, only around 30 meters from me :O Sow close that I felt like I had to retreat to avoid possible injury 😛 My cell was low on battery and mom called at the same time of filming sow this is all I got haHah.

Anyway I was not too far from Atlantis’ 2013 fireworks and some other place’s too. Sow had 3 firework shows in 1 row haHah XD

Other than that, I walked around JBR for 3 hours, and witnessed some of the celebrations.

Hilton hotel had half the beach blocked for some live concert

Meydan Beach’s Cafe Del Mar had some fire joggling, along with the some House music. THey said they sold out all seats, with 1,800 tickets sold a day before the event, and were closing off sales at noon the same day, standing tickets.

Habtoor Grand and Royal Meridien weren’t sow annoying; they were playing some oldies and swinging 60’s, with a huge screen with donowot on it.

Live Cooking Demos

Attended the first live & real cooking demonstration in my life, this time at Taste of Dubai in DMC, on March 16th 2012.

Especially liked the demo by Jason Vale (The JuiceMaster), who makes juiced veggies an essential part of his life, and by doing so, claimed to have lost the title “fat flaky boy” cause the juice not only made him loose loads of weight, but rid of his skin allergy. Juiced veggies (without any sweetners) taste sow good, even kids loved it 8D

There were loads of delish samples from fresh veggie juice, energy / relaxation drinks, bread dips (pestos, oils), flavored nuts, flavored grape juice, chips (like falafel chips!), oat cookies, cheese (e.g. flavored Lavachkiri’s), instant meals, etc.

The paid food & beverage was sow darn expensive, at 3-4 times the regular price due to the small portions 😯 One interesting dish was the Broccoli Pot, which is a basically broccoli pudding (not too sweet or creamy) 8]

The only real bummer was the cooking class queues. Those were around 30 to 45 minutes long, and one had to stand in them for the entire duration without reserving space for anyone. What happened for me was I was waiting in queue with a friend for around 20 minutes until a second friend arrived. I had to escort him in from the entrance so when I came back I went back into the queue where my first friend was standing.

When the group behind me noticed our size increase, they complained to the staff. Soon after the staff refused to have another person added to the group, I left the queue just to realize that my first friend actually left on an emergency call without telling me, and we lost the whole spot anyway 8/
